Insurance for Amazon Vehicle Drivers

Line of car lined up outside amazons warehouse waiting to collect items for delivery

According to Amazon’s CEO of worldwide consumer business, Dave Clerk, Amazon could probably be the largest package delivery carrier in the United States by early this year or by the end of the year for sure.

This means there are tens of thousands of Amazon drivers out there, and even more, are being added.

If you are one of them, then you are likely already in the market for insurance to cover your delivery vehicle, or you should be.

At Panorama Insurance Agency, we have the right policy waiting for you to take.

Panorama insurance agency covers the entire Northridge region of California, and we offer insurance products that satisfy every need and every budget.

A classic question we get from Amazon vehicle drivers is, does one need more insurance than provided by Amazon Flex Insurance? The answer is, that it depends.

What Is Amazon Flex Insurance?

Amazon Flex insurance is a tailored commercial vehicle insurance policy that is designed to provide Flex drivers with the coverage they must have while doing deliveries for Amazon.

The coverage provides comprehensive insurance, which includes liability, uninsured/underinsured driver coverage, and contingent and collision coverage.

On the face of it, it may sound as if that is all the insurance coverage you need to drive for Amazon but, as is always the case with insurance policies, the policies are for what they cover much as they are also for what they do not cover.

What Is Not Covered by Amazon Flex Insurance?

Although an Amazon Flex commercial vehicle insurance policy is likely to provide significant coverage, the policy excludes and does not cover many situations that you may need to minimize or eliminate the risk of liability and loss to you personally.

For example, the Amazon Flex insurance does not cover the following:

Towing and Rental Cars: If you are involved in a car accident and your motor vehicle requires repairs, an Amazon Flex insurance policy will not cover the cost of towing your damaged vehicle or the cost of renting a car, which you may need to use while your car is being repaired.

Medical Expenses: As an Amazon delivery driver, you are not an employee of Amazon, but you are an independent contractor.

As an independent contractor, you are responsible and must bear the cost of any medical care that you may need if you are involved in an accident.

Mechanical failures: If your motor vehicle has mechanical problems and is not operable anymore due to mechanical failures while you are on delivery.

Amazon Flex will not be of any help to you as mechanical failure is not covered.

On Duty Coverage. Amazon Flex only provides coverage when the Amazon delivery driver is picking up, delivering, or returning packages for Amazon.

In all other driving situations, you are on your own, and any risks that come in those situations are your own to deal with.
