HOW DOES CHURCH INSURANCE PROTECT MY INSTITUTION?

Leaders in churches and other religious institutions set out to provide fellowship and uplift faith within communities.

While the goals of these religious leaders may align more with the good their groups can do within a community, they mustn’t lose sight of protecting their institution as well.

Church insurance is a type of commercial insurance that covers church properties, vehicles, employees, and even those within their church.

By keeping your religious institution protected, you’re better able to reach your community and your desired audiences with complete peace of mind.

Just as business owners invest more into their businesses than just about anything in their lives, church leaders do the same.

For this reason, churches must be protected with an adequate commercial insurance policy just like businesses. For those with employees, outings, vehicles, and other assets, this becomes even more important.

What Does Church Insurance Cover?

Church insurance policies can cover a multitude of different things depending on your needs and the needs of your church.

Some common coverages in a church insurance policy are:

1.    General liability – General liability is one of the most important coverages in any church insurance policy. If a member of your fellowship slips coming up the stairs one day before or after church it’s the general liability policy that will take care of their medical costs and other damages. Without an insurance policy, the church may need to cover these damages out of pocket which can range into the tens of thousands or more.

2.    Property owners policy – The property owners’ policy portion of your coverage covers the building and property your church is in. If a heavy storm rolls through and hail damages your church, it’s the property owner’s policy that will take care of the repairs of your building. This ensures your church can maintain operations even if the worst occurs.

3.    Commercial car insurance – It’s not uncommon for churches to have vans or vehicles to transport churchgoers or take youth groups to meetings or field trips. Your church insurance policy should include commercial car insurance to cover your church’s vehicles and their use in maintaining church operations.

4.    Worker’s compensation – If your church employs workers having a worker’s compensation policy as part of your church insurance is important. This coverage ensures that employees will be taken care of should they become ill or injured on the job. Without this type of insurance, the church may need to pay injury or illness-related damages out of pocket.

Covering All Religious Facilities

Churches and other religious organizations are important to the community, so it’s important that they’re protected from whatever situations may be thrown their way. Your church insurance policy is your protection along with all of the coverages that come along with your chosen policy. If you’re interested in covering your church with a commercial insurance policy your first step should be speaking to a professional agent about your needs and what you desire to get out of your coverage.
